In February 2020 we reported on the plans to establish a new Arts Society in the city in advance of the City of Culture Year. Unfortunately in March 2020 we also reported on the postponement of the inaugural meeting due to the Coronavirus epidemic.

The postponed start of the Arts Society Coventry (TASC) is going ahead this autumn. The first meeting is a free ‘taster’ event to be held in the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum on Tuesday 7th September at 7.00pm, when Pepe Martinez will give an illustrated presentation entitled Banksy: Fraud or Genius? This will be followed by monthly events at the same venue where a diverse range of expert and entertaining speakers will challenge and educate Arts Society members and guests about topics ranging from medieval artistic creativity to the use of technology by contemporary artists.

If you are not already a member of the Arts Society you can join and take advantage of this wonderful additional resource to the Coventry Arts scene. Why should you join?

  1. It is a very good deal. There is a varied and stimulating forthcoming programme of topics and speakers. In addition to enabling you to attend all of these events at no additional cost, you will be able to meet up with other arts enthusiasts and enjoy a glass of wine or soft drink prior to lectures, you will receive a very informative quarterly magazine about current exhibitions, events and issues related to the Arts regionally, nationally and internationally, and also have access to a wide network of activities and online resources.
  2. The Arts Society is an international educational charity with a brief to promote the arts and their relevance (See ). By joining, you will be supporting the Society in these objectives.
  3. It promises to be a great addition to the Coventry Arts scene, but the maintainance of this and subsequent programmes will depend on recruiting local members.

You can apply online for membership and book to attend the first event on 7th September, via their website If you are already a member of another branch of the society you can ayttend as a guest.

Please pass on this information and the programme to others who may be interested in joining or attending.
